The book comes with complete colour maps of the Indian subcontinent and nearly all the bird species found here. It throws light on the important and distinguishable features of the birds and lists information on nearly 1300 species of birds. Some of the birds mentioned in Birds of The Indian Subcontinent are Otus thilohoffmanni, S. whistleri and Seicercus burkii. The book comes with 214 colour plates in order to help distinguish the birds. These colour plates are placed in such a manner that they face the maps and text, to help in identifying birds quickly. It also has detailed tables with bird characteristics, to help identify some specific birds that are difficult to spot like the rose finch, warbler and nightjar. The second edition of the Birds of The Indian Subcontinent was published in 2011 by Oxford University Press and is available in paperback.

About the Author: Richard Grimmett is a well-known author and has travelled extensively across Asia documenting various bird species for his projects. He is the conservation head of Birdlife International. Birds of Nepal, Birds of Bhutan, Birds of Southern India and Birds of Northern India are some of his other books. Tim Inskipp is a freelance wildlife consultant and continues to travel widely across Asia. Field Guide To The Birds of Nepal is another book by him. Carol Inskipp is a wildlife consultant.
