The Present Anthology Is An Attempt To Address This Void. Besides Papers On Ethnic Movements In Eastern India It Includes Two Papers On North-East And One On The Reproduction Of Ethnic Consciousness In The Everyday Life By The Hindus And Muslims In The Walled City Of Ahmedabad In The Aftermath Of Gujarat Riots. The Papers In This Volume Argue, In Common, That There Are Forces In The Liberal Democratic Order, Both In Its Morphology And Praxis, That Essentially Exploit, Marginalize And Alienate The Downtrodden Who, With Minimal Control Over The Productive Resources, Live With Identities Like 'Lower Castes', 'Minorities' And The 'subaltern Classes'. A Growing Sense Of Exploitation, Deprivation And Exclusion Often Finds Articulation In Caste, Community Or Ethnic Movements. However, Such Movements Soon Falter In The Absence Of Solid Ideological Foundation And Leadership And Under The Pressure Of The Systemic Forces. The Movements Suffer From 'sustainability Problem' As They Engage In 'Politics Of Chauvinism' While Making Political Alignments With The Mainstream Political Parties. The Leaders, The Ethnic Neo-Elite Draw Some Material And 'Power' Benefits While The Real-Life Issues Of The Ordinary Members Of The Ethnic Communities Remain Unaddressed. The Contributors, Representing Various Social Science Disciplines, Have Given An Interdisciplinary Treatment To The Problem Of Ethnicity And Ethnic Movements In Contemporary Odisha, West Bengal, The North-East, And Gujarat., About The Author:- Sanjay K.
