Social thought provides general theories to explain actions and behavior of society as a whole, encompassing sociological, political and philosophical ideas. After doing M.A in Sociology, Upendra Kumar Singh obtained Ph.D on his doctoral thesis Social Inequality: Thoughts of Social Thinkers in Modern Context . He is Professor of Sociology at Jai Prakash University, Chapra, Bihar. He is deeply concerned over social injustice as well as rampant poverty among people. During his tenure of teaching he has strived hard to eradicate social injustice through his lectures on the subject. Besides being author of several books, he has frequently contributed articles to magazines and journals. Participating in many seminars and conferences, he appealed for social justice.
