The Kite Runner captures the innate journey of life that commences with the naive foundation of childhood, the relationships that hold a soul along that phase and the imperfections within them which by themselves are a guide for living. A feel for the atmosphere in which the story is being narrated is what that elevates it to another scale. A doctor turned author, Khaled Hosseini in his debut work, The Kite Runner narrates a tale that is about a couple of Kabul residents and the equation that they share where one is an owner's son, Amir who has every comfort that a human craves for and the other is a Hassan who happens to be the only son of a physically handicapped caretaker. The scene undergoes a gradual shift where they need to flee their home-nation Afghanistan for once owing to unforeseen political circumstances. This very event turns the tables for Amir who with his father, a strict disciplinarian, heads to California. When the situation appears to be nearing normalcy, the protagonist is revealed of dangerous truths that shake him mentally. He has to return to his roots and perform a rescue act. It's an ultimate poetic ending that the writer gifts the reader at the culmination justifying how simple yet complex the emotions, the journeys and the characters in the story are. Published in 2012 by Penguin India, The Kite Runner is available in paperback. Key Features: The Kite Runner remained as a best seller for 25 months. The book fetched a release in almost 40 languages. It was adapted into a film in 2007 with the same name and was directed by Marc Foster.

Being an American Afghan, doctor Khaled Hosseini took a break from his medical practice to pen the Kite Runner, which he claims to be an inspiration from a newspaper article that stated the banning of kites in his home-nation Afghanistan, which he apparently couldn't digest with his obvious connections with the past. He has further gone on to write books like Thousand Splendid Suns and The Mountains Echoed, which received equal applause for his repertoire to connecting readers with themes bearing universal significance.
